This page lists changes from earlier versions of Renshuu.
1.0 → 2.0
There were miscellaneous bugfixes, but here are the notable changes.
Vocabulary editing
- Kanji stroke count data is now provided automatically using information obtained from KANJIDIC2, so you don't have to type it in.
- Readings and grade level from KANJIDIC2 also display while editing kanji.
- You can move kanji and vocabulary items between categories.
- You can now automatically extract kanji from vocabulary (i.e. type in some vocabulary, then get a bunch of kanji from that vocabulary to be tested on).
Test improvements
- The answer display screen now shows the correct stroke order, thanks to the Kanji stroke order font (which is automatically included in the program, you don't need to download or install it). This means you can check stroke order as well as appearance.
- The answer display screen also shows readings from KANJIDIC2, and shows four random vocabulary entries (there was a slightly different way of displaying vocabulary before).
- Typing Y or N now works even if you've clicked in the scribble-box after checking the answer (it didn't before, that was a bug).
File management
- The program now uses a single global data file (stored in your user folders) that contains the vocabulary list, to save you having to manage separate files. For new users, the list is automatically initialised with the provided JLPT level 4 vocabulary and kanji.
- You can import or export selected categories of vocabulary, making it easier to exchange data.
Platform improvements
- The Windows version now contains a launcher .exe which means it will work even if you've installed certain totally broken archiving programs that mess up jar files.
- The Mac version has been tweaked so that the display works slightly better (buttons lining up, etc.) in latest OS X version.
- Renshuu now supports the Java 6 splashscreen feature to give you feedback when it's loading (if running Java 6).
- There was a bug which meant the Windows version wouldn't work on non-English-language Windows installs; this has been fixed (I hope).
